- WADING POOL ANIMATION · An Imagine² + Essence² Render
-
- This animation was designed for two reasons:
-
- 1. To test the "Raindrops" texture in Essence² so I could see what it
- looked like animated.
-
- 2. To verify that the texture would determine the displacement of the
- surface BEFORE the refraction was calculated (thus distorting the
- objects underneath properly). Steve Worley designs his textures well,
- and I was sure this would be the case. I was not disappointed.
-
- I wanted the rain to be falling on something more interesting than a flat
- plane, so I modelled a bean-shaped swimming pool (which is still under
- modifications so it's not included yet), filled it full of water, and
- invited a frog to be part of the photo-shoot. To demonstrate the
- refraction effects of the water droplets, I painted a piece of blue canvas
- with some appropriate credits and layed it on the bottom of the pool.
-
- The "Raindrops" texture is placed on the object so the Z axis points
- in the direction the rain is falling. Setting this to an angle other than
- 90° (perpendicular) to the object surface will result in elliptical shaped
- ripples.
-
- The "RandomRipple" texture was also added to the object to provide a
- slightly more ripply appearance (less defined). Since the "RandomRipple"
- texture is basically fractally disturbed ripples radiating from a central
- point, I moved the texture's asis off of the object itself. This would
- give the appearance that the ripples are the result of wind blowing from
- the side. I kept the effect of these ripples quite low.(
-
- I rendered the animation in Laced HAM, as non-laced does not provide a
- resolution that gives the texture justice. Thus, I have only included 20
- frames in this animation to keep its size low.
